Wednesday, June 5, 2024 The four Columbia River treaty fishing tribes set the following fishery plan and the Columbia River Compact concurred: The tribes have taken a cautious approach to the initial summer season fishery to address uncertainties in run sizes and catch rates in an effort to avoid risks of fishery closures. The tribes will work to provide additional fishing opportunity as more certainty becomes available about the run sizes and catch rates.
Zone 6 Platform and Hook-and-Line Fishery
- Area: All of Zone 6
- Dates/Times: Fish caught after 6 AM on Monday, June 17 may be sold as described below. Sales continue until further notice.
- Gear: Standard platform and hook-and-line gears as determined by tribal regulations.
- Allowable Sales:
- Salmon (any species) and steelhead may be sold or kept for subsistence.
- Shad, yellow perch, bass, walleye, catfish and carp may also be sold or retained for subsistence.
- Sturgeon may not be sold, but sturgeon from 38 to 54 inches fork length in the Bonneville Pool and sturgeon from 43 to 54 inches fork length in The Dalles and John Day pools may be kept for subsistence purposes.
- Closed Areas: River mouth and dam closed areas applicable to platform and hook-and-line gear are in effect.
Zone 6 Commercial Gillnet Fishery
- Area: All of Zone 6
- Dates/Times: 6 AM Monday, June 17 through 6 PM Wednesday, June 19 (2 nights) and 6 AM Monday, June 24 through 6 PM Thursday, June 27 (3 nights).
- Gear: Set and Drift Gillnets with a 7-inch minimum mesh size restriction.
- Allowable Sales:
- Salmon (any species) and steelhead may be sold or kept for subsistence.
- Shad, yellow perch, bass, walleye, catfish and carp may be sold or kept for subsistence. Fish landed during the open periods are allowed to be sold after the period concludes.
- Sturgeon may not be sold, but sturgeon from 38 to 54 inches fork length in the Bonneville Pool and sturgeon from 43 to 54 inches fork length in The Dalles and John Day pools may be kept for subsistence purposes. Fish landed during the open periods are allowed to be sold after the period concludes.
- Closed Areas: River mouth and dam closed areas applicable to gillnets in effect. The Spring Creek Hatchery closed area is not in effect in the summer management period.
Tributary Fisheries and Fisheries Downstream of Bonneville Dam
- Tributary fisheries are managed under separate limits from the mainstem fishery. This action does not affect the tributary fisheries. Please contact your tribe for current tributary regulations.
