Biography

Kate is a fishery scientist focused on harvest management. She works in collaboration with other Columbia River Basin managers to assist the CRITFC member tribes in the planning and coordination of tribal harvest in the region. She also represents the organization on the US v OR Technical Advisory Committee. She works with policymakers and staff to coordinate artificial propagation reform to achieve goals and objectives consistent with treaty fishing rights case law and regional management processes. She participates in technical groups to develop population size estimates, harvest projections, and escapement estimates which inform technical decisions related to harvest management.

Past work includes conducting research to improve downstream survival through high head dams for native runs of salmon and steelhead in Oregon and examining genetic and behavioral differences between actively migrating hatchery and wild salmon. She enjoys volunteering with elementary classes through the local program, Salmon Watch, and sharing her work with other community groups. Landing at CRITFC has fulfilled her career goal of holding a scientific position that requires communication between stakeholders and the general public. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
